RSJI Lecture Series

Each year, the Race and Social Justice Initiative hosts a series of public programs showcasing nationally known leaders discussing issues surrounding race and social justice in the Charleston area and throughout the nation. In spring 2016, the Race and Social Justice Lecture Series featured thought-provoking speakers including education activist Marion Wright Edelman (March 1, 2016) and social justice advocate Bryan Stevenson (March 31, 2016). In 2017, the Race and Social Justice Initiative will continue the series beginning with the rescheduling of journalist and author Ta-Nehisi Coates on March 21, 2017, and Dr. Lonnie Bunch on June 15, 2017. All events are free and open to the public. The Race and Social Justice Lecture Series would not be possible without the help from our community partners: the Lowcountry Unity Fund at the Coastal Community Foundation funded by Google, the Charleston County Public Library, the Women’s Resource Project, Inc., the Phillis Wheatley Literary and Social Club, and the Sophia Institute.
